Black Sheep To Be Celebrated at Pop Up Food Event with a Twist at Clonmel Junction Festival

In any other setting ‘black sheep’, those odd and sometimes misunderstood family members or friends, are rarely celebrated. But this summer Clonmel Junction Festival is set to bring a diverse and unique programme to County Tipperary carefully curated around the theme of the black sheep.

At the heart of the festival, running from 4th-9th of July, is the The Black Sheep Café, which will operate as a pop up cafe, restaurant, conversation space, tavern and home to the ‘Festival Club’.

The popular Cork based GLUT team, who specialise in preserving, foraging, fermenting, is behind the cafe.

Founders Wayne Dunlea and Ciaran Meade will be on hand serving delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner.

They will be championing local farmers and growers and producers for their daily changing menus. They will be using local apples for cider (Con’s apple farm) and other ingredients for drinks menu also.

In keeping with the theme they will be cooking a black sheep in a specially constructed fire pit for the festival. The church will be turned into a hip restaurant for one week only.

The cafe exhibition that will feature work from Katie Hanlan, Sound Works by Crash Ensemble, LIT Black Sheep Perspective and much more.

They are also hosting interesting talks which are free and will be taking place at the cafe throughout the week speakers include: Meet The Makers: Talk with Tipperary Food Producers (Wed-Fri 4pm), Clonmel Food Trail (Sat 11am) and the Clonmel Foraging Walk (Sat 4pm).
