Who doesn’t love getting a gift in the post? Even the smallest gestures feel all the more special when delivered to your door. Unfortunately, little luxuries don’t seem to land on our doorsteps quite enough, even though we’re worth it.

You’ve likely heard of monthly beauty product deliveries from Birchbox to Glossybox and thought of ripping the packages open excitedly like a child on Christmas morning. These periodical presents make a fantastic gifts to ourselves and the ardent food lover shouldn’t miss out – whether you are a whizz in the kitchen or someone you love is happiest tasting their way through life, these monthly foodie subscriptions are packages guaranteed to put smiles on faces!

Irish Taste Club

Describing their service as being like ‘an Irish Farmers Market delivered to your door’, Irish Taste Club was established with the goal of cutting out the middle men and supporting the small Irish artisan producers who have cropped up increasingly in recent years. Interestingly, this service also delivers to the US, promoting the fantastic producers we are lucky to have here in Ireland.

Previous boxes have included goodies from small producers such as The Be Sweet Company’s delicious butter fudge, Clare Jam Company chutneys, LubDub Foods near to nature bars and Galway Food Co’s shortbread.  A one month subscription costs €49, with the option of three months for €135. A thoughtful gift for loved ones in the US or your good self, safe in the knowledge that you are supporting local producers.

Each dish you create is really only as good as the produce you put into it, so letting the fantastic Ardkeen Food Store in Waterford curate a collection of  seasonal, handpicked goodies from all around our wonderful country is genius. Ardkeen’s selection of Irish artisan products is tough to match, so you can trust that their ‘Food Heroes Experience The Season box will be full to the brim with treats from small producers you will fall in love with upon trying.

The current offering includes fine Lorge chocolate from Kenmare, Co. Kerry, Achill Island sea salt, delicious Mooncoin beetroot relish from Kilkenny and Waterford’s Grantstown specialty tomatoes, amongst other delights. With 7-10 products in each delivery, this subscription is a bargain at €45 per box, which are sent out each quarter to reflect the changing season.

Sheridan’s Cheese Club

Cheese club. Had something like this existed when I was in school I would have been the president, secretary and head cheese dweeb, but as an adult I can think of no more impressive a membership to hold than that of Sheridan’s Cheese Club. The expert mongers at Dublin cheese mecca Sheridan’s choose four different varieties of cheese each month, based on seasonality and ripeness.

This foursome of fromage will be delivered straight to your door along with tasting notes and is available in 3, 6 and annual subscriptions. Why not give 3 months a go for €120 and become the cheese afficiando you have always dreamed you would be or perhaps say brie mine to a loved one with the ultimate cheesy gift?

O’Brien’s Craft Club

If you prefer a tipple as a treat, you’ll be delighted to hear that you can have a selection of handpicked craft beers dropped to your door with O’Brien’s Craft Club. Each box in the three month subscription contains a selection of six beers across a diverse range of styles and is the perfect taster set, meaning you are sure to find some new favourites and broaden your craft beer horizons. For €65 for six months, you will receive a delivery on the last Wednesday of every month of whole bean coffee, expertly chosen based on seasonality from regions across the globe and roasted that day.

Embrace your inner cave person, or gift the privilege of primal indulgence, with Carnivore Club’s monthly deliveries of a selection of tempting charcuterie.

Darina CoffeyGrowing up with the name Darina, I was constantly asked if I could cook like my namesake. With that(and greed) as the ultimate motivator, I realised that baked goods make excellent bribes and an obsession was born! I am the only person to have contested both Masterchef and the Great Irish Bake off, fuelling my desire to focus on food in a serious way. Working with TheTaste allows me to satisfy this craving and marries my food fascination with my love of writing and ranting.
