Not Just Apples And Pears – Introducing The Fruit People

Here at TheTaste we love to support new initiatives, especially in the food sector. We all like to eat more healthy these days and what better way to break those bad habits than have fresh fruit delivered straight to the office!

Where another Irish car dealer worked his way from selling apples to selling cars, the Dennis brothers have gone the complete opposite way. Growing up in the family business, HB Dennis Motors, these Clontarf-born brothers are a prime example of what skill, passion and entrepreneurial spirit emigrants can bring back to Ireland when, after travelling in the Middle East and Australia, Barry and Brian Dennis returned to Dublin to set up a successful office delivery service, supplying fresh fruit daily to offices around the capital.

In 2009 the car industry was, like most of the economy, enduring tough times, so both brothers seized the opportunity to travel and broaden their skills and experience. Brian continued in the family business of auto sales travelling around the sweltering Middle East whilst Barry made his way across Australia working for a company supplying homes with fresh produce deliveries. Both returned to the homeland inspired and identified a great opportunity in Dublin based around their combined experience. Spotting a growing gap in the office delivery market, The Fruit People was born in early 2013.

The brothers began building a client base of workplaces around Dublin and word spread quickly, gaining contracts from multi-national corporations (Amazon, Symantec, Danske Bank) as well as small start-ups and local businesses with 50 employees and less. “Regardless of their size, each business is seeking the same thing,” Barry explains, “a supply of fresh and healthy snacks to fuel their employees. Benefitting both nutrition and morale in the office, our service offers our time and energy to hard-working people in offices who want to enjoy a healthy diet and the benefits of fresh produce straight from the markets each day but can’t afford the time,” he adds.

As young entrepreneurs in a post-recession Dublin, both know how important digital media, marketing and technology is to grow a young business. Live order tracking, an easy-to-use e-commerce site with customisable order functions, and an interactive digital presence adds extra dimensions to a friendly face-to-face service. The blog on their site also offers daily updates for customers with insight into the business, interviews, unique recipes and articles on workplace wellbeing, nutrition and fitness. Here’s to a sweeter, healthier workplace for all!
