Families and Food Enthusiasts Set for Midsummer Magic at the Boyne Valley Food Series

An enchanting time in Ireland’s Ancient East, Boyne Valley Food Series is tapping into the magic of midsummer with a line-up of events in June that have a special appeal for families and food enthusiasts.

The Boyne Valley was crowned a Foodie Destination in 2016 and A Taste of Ireland’s Ancient East, which is part of the Irish Maritime Festival taking place at Drogheda Port on the 10th and 11th of June.

Over the two days foodies can expect displays, tastings and demonstrations, including by food writer and TV chef Tara Walker who will reveal her favourite local ingredients, as well as a food market with hot food stalls, and local drinks, such as the new triple-casked Slane Irish Whiskey.

The first Kells Hinterland Festival take place between the 22nd and 25th of June, with numerous events planned over the weekend celebrating literature and the arts, a number of which are food-related.

Firstly, wine writer Tomás Clancy will host an evening of wine tasting, titled The Wine Geese, at the Vanilla Pod restaurant on the 22nd of June. The event combines wine tasting with a retelling of the story of the impact of Irish winemakers and merchants on the wine industry in France and beyond.

On the 23rd of June, next door in the Kelltic Courtyard, sisters Judith, a beer sommelier, and Susan Boyle will present a fun, 90-minute tasting event Tales of Ales that includes beers and tapas.

For younger food fans, a Junior Big Irish Food Quiz on 25th of June will see Fáilte Ireland food champions Olivia Duff and Jacinta Dalton test participants on their food knowledge.
