Leisurely Lunching in No. 27 Bar & Lounge at The Shelbourne Hotel

Marking special occasions for many of us usually revolves around food and if this is wrong we don’t want to be right. Finding a window of time to actually carry out said celebrations can be tricky in what seems to be an ever increasingly busy work week. However, we managed to wrangle a slightly longer lunch last Monday and fit in a nice leisurely lunch in No. 27 Bar & Lounge located in Dublin’s stunning Shelbourne Hotel. The chance to luxuriate in these plush surroundings and order a delicious lunch is quite the treat. Not an every day lunch time occurance but certainly great value for the quality of food served in one of Dublin’s stalwarts. Two courses for two people came to €55.00.

After looking around the room and noticing so many tourists enjoying what we here in Ireland can often overlook on a menu Market Fish & Chips,The first decision of the afternoon was made very easy, Kilmore Quay Plaice, Crushed Garden Peas, Tartar Sauce, Fries. Delectably moist Plaice encapsulated within the crispiest batter, chips that we deduced saw a hot bath of oil at least three times, vibrant green crushed garden peas balancing the sinful nature of this indulgent plate and a zingy Tartar Sauce adding an extra level of flavour to each bite.

The second dish to the table a far more angelic affair for the health conscious amongst us. Open Smoked Salmon. Warm toasted sourdough topped with lashings of smashed avocado and swathed in water thin slices of Smoked Salmon. A delicious alternative to our more usual lunchtime sandwich.

Something sweet? It doesn’t get much sweeter than Shelbourne Pavlova – Crème Chantilly, Mixed Berries. Meringue so crisp with an almost marshmallow like interior was like biting into a little cloud of sweetness. Fresh berries and crème chantilly, were all that was needed to complete this classic.

When we were informed that the Cake of The Day was Lemon Cake the decision to order was made on the spot. In an age of ‘deconstructed’ desserts it was so nice to see a proper slice of cake being presented to us. The traditional layers of sponge cake sandwiched together with a light lemon butter icing was a joy to behold. Very simply served with fresh raspberries and an impressive logo clad chocolate disc atop the all important side of fresh cream. A true winner in the dessert stakes.

Shelbourne Hotel

There is something very distinctive about The Shelbourne Hotel and once you experience it you will want to return time and time again. From a glass of wine in the evening to a leisurely lunch like we just had to the full on glitz and glam of a Saturday night, The Shelbourne oozes style, class and a level of sophistication all of its own

We highly recommend taking time to enjoy The Shelbourne Hotel and experience Five Star Luxury that is attainable and enjoyable.
