LegenDerry Festival to Impress Food Lovers this Weekend
This weekend Derry’s Guildhall Square will play host to the LegenDerry Food Festival on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March. The best chefs and producers in the region will be dishing up the finest local cuisine to thousands of food loving visitors from 12pm to 6pm.
As part of the Northern Ireland Year of Food & Drink, the theme for March is ‘Heritage and Traditions‘ so the emphasis for the festival will be on the local history of food and showcasing Derry’s food champions. Chefs from leading local restaurants will be cooking signature dishes with all the live kitchen action taking place in the Theatre of Food and Boulevard of Chefs inside the Festival Marquee.
Some of the chefs taking part include Michelin-starred restaurateur Michael Deane, TV star Paul Rankin, Paula McIntyre and Ian Orr of Brown’s restaurants. An array of artisan local food producers will also be showcasing their finest wares in the LegenDerry Food Hall within the Guildhall on both days of the festival.
Mary Blake, the Council’s Tourism Officer, expects Guildhall Square to be absolutely buzzing as the city marches on with its dynamic ‘food revolution’. She added: “The historic Guildhall provides the beautiful backdrop for an impressive array of locally produced delicacies from hand crafted confectionary to perfect preserves. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample some of the best local produce and learn more from our regional artisans about food provenance and the importance of loving local.”
