A Tantastic Treat From California to Celebrate Cabernet Sauvignon Day
This year’s Cabernet Sauvignon Day is August 31st. Celebrated the Thursday before the US Labour Day, the date gives us yet another pretext to open a bottle of the world’s most planted grape variety. Good old Cab Sauv’s name is seen gracing the labels of many New World wonders and while you won’t read it on the front of a fine Bordeaux, you’ll often know its there, as it’s one of the appellation’s main varieties.
On the right hands, Cabernet Sauvignon shows the strength and precision of a martial artist, and while it’s not one for the tannin-averse, those who appreciate its power would agree: go big or go home!
Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is definitively going big. This red from California’s Sonoma County is an intense and generous Cab Sauv blended with a dash of Cab Franc and other Bordeaux regulars.
Pour it and enjoy a parade of blackcurrants and blackberries marching enthusiastically to the beat of vanilla and toasted cocoa beans.
Balanced tannins play loudly but harmoniously. A notable oak character and a moderate ABV of 13.5% ensure all feels well integrated.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is available at O’Briens Wine at €26.95.
