Feel Good Fry Ups – Irish Butchers Launches a 27 Calorie Sausage

Prestigious butchers Whelan’s Gourmet Foods has recently launched an innovation that will make you want to go for seconds: as part of their “Healthy Option” range, they are now offering a high-protein, 27 calorie sausage that has about a tenth of the caloric count of a regular sausage.

Whether you interpret the news as a green light to eat ten of them or as a way to enjoy one or two without breaking your dieting goals, they surely are lean, and coming from a multi-award winning company with four decades of experience, we can rest assured they’ve gone out of their way to ensure they have great flavour too.

The sausages are made with lean pork meat with all the visible fat removed, pea fibre and water. They don’t use any rusk meal or flour, which also sets them apart from the standard sausage.

They are currently sold in several shops in Dublin and they come in a “Healthy Choice” pack which includes low-fat white and black pudding. The pack weights 400 grams and it’s priced at €3.49.

Whelan’s Gourmet Foods is an Irish owned and family run butchers with over 40 years in business. They manufacture their own sausages and aim to offer a high quality product every time, both in stockists and at their two locations in Dublin. They have expanded their range in recent years to include innovative flavour combinations and healthier choices.
