The Guinness Storehouse has retained its spot as Ireland’s number one visitor attraction, welcoming more than 1.7 million visitors in 2017.

With 18 million people having visited the Dublin attraction since it first opened in 2000, an economic report revealed that the Guinness Storehouse generates more than €360 million for the Irish economy every year.

The Storehouse has also unveiled plans for a €16 million expansion at the St James’ Gate location, which is expected to be completed in 2019. The expansion will include doubling the size of its gravity bar, which provides visitors with a 360 degree view of Dublin.

Commenting on 2017’s visitor numbers, Paul Carty, managing director of the Guinness Storehouse said: “Our aim is to position Ireland and the Guinness Storehouse as a year-round, ‘must visit’ destination and to ensure that the contribution of overseas tourism to the economy continues to expand.

“This year we saw a strong market diversification and visitor growth from long-haul markets in Asia Pacific. We are excited to begin the next chapter of the Guinness Storehouse and welcome even more visitors in 2018.”
