Ireland’s First Sherry Festival Coming this September at Cava Bodega

Cava Bodega, award-winning Spanish restaurant in Galway is hosting a “Sherry Fiesta’ this September, just in time to toast to the harvest season. Food and Sherry pairing will be part of the celebration, and guests will be presented with different styles of Sherry wines to try, such as Manzanilla, Fino from DO Jerez and Barbadillo.

Four sherry masterclasses will take place during September: On Friday the 2nd and the 23rd, the talks will be hosted by Cava Bodega owner and Michelin star chef  JP McMahon. On the 9th, Elizabeth Fox, a wine lecturer in GMIT will be the speaker; and on the 30th, Paddy Murphy, Irish sherry aficionado and certified Sherry educator behind The Vine Inspiration blog will have the stage.

JP McMahon says, “Sherry is such a beautiful, under-appreciated wine. From dry to nutty to sweet, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy. Sherry is a food lover’s wine. I want everyone to enjoy the pleasure of understanding this unique and ancient drink.”

Ireland’s First Sherry Festival Coming this September at Cava BodegaThe cost is €45 per masterclass and a copy of the Tapas: A Taste of Spain in Ireland cookbook by JP McMahon is included. The book features recipes from the Cava Bodega menu that have sherry as a key ingredient, such as octopus, chorizo & Oloroso sherry, whole prawns in Fino sherry, and free range duck, plums & PX sherry.

Spaces for the masterclasses are limited to 25, so booking in advance is highly recommended. You can find out more information about Sherry Fiesta with details about the masterclasses and how to book at cavarestaurant.ie.
