Hooked Sligo named Bord Bia’s ‘Just Ask’ Restaurant of the Year 2019
Recently it was announced that Hooked restaurant in Sligo has been named as Bord Bia’s ‘Just Ask’ Restaurant of the Year 2019. The popular Sligo restaurant was recognised for highlighting and supporting local suppliers and producers, and for constantly showcasing the area’s high quality produce in its menus.
In June 2018, Hooked was named as the Just Ask Restaurant of the Month, and it seems the accolades keep on coming. Set up by Sligo restaurateur Anthony Grey and wife Eilish, Hooked is a sister restaurant to the established Eala Bhán. Anthony is heavily involved in the food scene in Sligo and is also chairman of the Sligo Food Trail.
Previously Anthony has said, “We believe in using all the finest, freshest produce county Sligo has to offer. Le Fournil, the French Bakery next door supply us with fresh bread daily and artisan cheese suppliers include Dozios in North Mayo and Bluebell Falls Goats Cheese in Co. Cork.”
Head chef of Hooked, Joe McGlynn has created a mouthwatering menu that truly represents the abundance of fantastic produce available in Ireland. Diners can feast on delights such as Slow Cooked Pork Belly, Bluebell Falls Goats Cheese Salad and Sherlock’s of Tubbercurry Sirloin, to name but a few. Hooked proudly showcases its list of local and artisan suppliers, and continue to support the local Irish economy.
The Just Ask initiative was set up in 2009, with winners chosen by food writer Georgina Campbell in collaboration with Bord Bia. It encourages diners to “just ask” about food provenance when they are in restaurants, encouraging a farm to fork ethos. Restaurant’s across Ireland are recognised for their commitment to sourcing local Irish produce, highlighting suppliers and showcasing transparency in their menus.
