Halla Bia to Bring First Indoor Food Hall to the Galway Food Festival

While it isn’t always sunny in Galway, the weather won’t be a wildcard in this year’s Galway Food Festival with the introduction of Halla Bia. Halla Bia is a vibrant indoor market and food hall, the first of it’s kind in Galway, and will showcase the very best of Irish artisan produce. This new market will be located at the Connacht Tribune Print Works, Market Street, Galway and will be open from 14-16 April from 10am to 6pm during the Festival.

Halla Bia provides an opportunity for small local food and drink producers to showcase their products and make a name for themselves with the influx of foodie tourists in Galway for the festival. Local Enterprise Office Galway have linked up with their colleagues in Local Enterprise Offices along the Wild Atlantic Way to bring a wide range of amazing local food producers to Galway. Producers from Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Donegal will be selling their products at the indoor market over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Breda Fox, Head of Local Enterprise Office Galway said: “We urge you all to make your way to Halla Bia – Local Enterprise Food Hall over the Easter weekend and meet small producers from along the West coast such as Sabanero Cheese and Ivy House Chocolates from Galway, Linalla ice-cream from Clare, The Gluten Free Kitchen Company from Kerry and plant-based vegan producer, The Légumerie from Donegal.”

A highlight event at Galway Food Festival, Halla Bia is part of the wider effort within Galway to encourage and promote local food and drink producers who are growing and creating employment throughout the region. Local Enterprise Office Galway also supports this initiative as part of the European Region of Gastronomy 2018.

Festival organiser, and owner of Builín Blasta Café and Bakery in Spiddal, Heather Flaherty, said: “The addition of Halla Bia to this year’s festival is allowing us to bring even more fantastic Irish producers to Galway. The strength of the festival is in the interaction of consumers with bakers, butchers, farmers, chefs and local producers. That interaction strengthens people’s relationships with the food they eat and results in a healthier community and a stronger economy. Everyone benefits and it is a good example of the need for a dedicated daily market in Galway.”

In 2018, Galway plays host to the European Region of Gastronomy, which aims to contribute to a better quality of life in European regions, by highlighting distinctive food cultures. Galway Food Festival is a proud partner of this event and recognises the festival as an integral part of the European Region of Gastronomy award for the region of Galway.

Galway Food Festival will run from the 13th-17th April, for more information on the festival click here. For more information on Halla Bia email Ricky Conneely at rconneely@leo.galwaycoco.ie.
