Wed 14th September
South Africa with Alex Starey from Keermont Vineyards & Pieter Walser from BLANKbottle
7.30pm-9.30pm €35 – Two wine makers for the price of one!
We’re delighted to be joined by Alex Starey, wine maker at Keermont Vineyards in Stellenbosch and Pieter Walser from BLANKbottle who will be introducing his stunning wines to the Irish market for the very first time.
“If you want to see the new South Africa and catch a glimpse of what the future beholds, then look no further than Keermont.” Neal Martin (Wine Advocate) BLANKbottle winemaker Pieter H Walser has a ‘punk’ approach to winemaking, ripping up every rulebook there is going. But his excellent South African wines speak for themselves.
These fascinating and challenging wines are found in some of the world’s trendiest and most exclusive restaurants.
A super start to our autumn tasting schedule, I’m looking forward to this one!!
Sat 24th September
One Day Wine School 11am-4pm with Claire O’Boyle Gallagher
€100.00 (Two for €180) – A fun, sociable day out while learning about one of life’s great pleasures!
Our One-Day Introductory Wine School is a relaxed yet educational experience, designed to introduce you to the essential wine regions, wine styles and classic grape varieties. You will also learn how to taste using the same format that professionals use to assess wine.
These fundamentals will give you the building blocks to not only become a more confident taster, but also to be able to understand and describe clearly what you do and don’t like about certain wines, which is invaluable when asking for advice in shops or navigating your way around a wine list in a restaurant.
Claire has a wealth of experience in and deep understanding of wine culture, gastronomy and the wine trade, having worked across many facets of the business, including as a lecturer for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.
Enjoy a Champagne welcome in the wine bar, before kicking off the morning session.
We’ll break for a light lunch from 1pm-2pm, before resuming the afternoon session.
Tue 27th September
It’s only Natural: A tasting of Organic, Biodynamic & Natural wines with Pascal Rossignol of Le Caveau
7.30pm-9.30pm €35
That noise you’ve been hearing is the recent buzz about natural wines. They’re the wines that get described as “non-interventionist,” or “low sulphur” or a host of other things that people can’t seem to agree on and has caused a lot of controversy over the last several years. But what exactly makes a wine “natural”? Why are they so controversial? Join us for this special tasting and learn the natural skinny on wines that the hippest wine bars and restaurant lists in cities like London, Paris, Copenhagen, Tokyo or San Francisco just can’t get enough of.
This tasting will be hosted by Pascal Rossignol of Le Caveau, widely recognized as one of Ireland’s leading importers of natural wines. Pascal travels widely and meets regularly with the winemakers and personalities who continue to challenge conventional wisdom about wine. Prepare to have some of your pre-conceptions about what wine should look, or smell, or taste like challenged- as well as taste some delicious and surprising wines.
