Carving Out The Competition – Ireland’s Great Carvery Competition Launches

Back for it’s ninth year, Unilever Food Solutions has joined up with Ireland’s favourite gravy KNORR to find the best pub and hotel carvery in the country.

Speaking at this year’s competition launch, Jim Reeves, Customer Director at Unilever Food Solutions said,

“The core values of the competition are about celebrating and rewarding teams who can make a great carvery and meet the standards of excellence – great quality food and service, cleanliness and value for money.”

Head Chef at Beaumont House, Niall Staers, who won the Great Pub of the Year 2017, spoke on the benefits of the win saying,

“We’ve seen an increase in sales since winning the competition and the congratulations from our customers has really boosted morale and continues to make  us proud of the great job we’ve done.”

Great Carvery Competition

The entrants to the Great Carvery Competition will be shortlisted to 24 nominees in the pub category and 3 in the hotel category from each Irish province.

Each nominee will then receive a mystery diner with winners from each province announced on 10th September and then overall winners announced on 21st September.

All entrants will be entered into a draw to win an Apple iPad, with many great prizes to be won at each stage of the competition. Entrants can also download a free Knorr Great Carvery Guide for recipes and inspiration.

Winner of Great Carvery Hotel of the Year 2017, Kevin Watson, Head Chef of Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel spoke on the win saying

“Our covers have increased by 25% since winning the competition and we’ve especially seen a boost to our mid-week carvery trade.”

Kevin wants to encourage other chefs to enter the competition saying “the recognition helps to boost business” and helps motivate the entire team.

The overall winners from both categories will receive; 200,000 worth of UFS Chef Reward Points, a state of the art Wüsthof 7 Piece Silverpoint Roll Set, a commemorative plaque and framed certificate and a chef jacket.
