Family-Run Mountain View Market, Kilkenny’s Most Loved Farmer’s Market, Returns

Set on 120 acres of Kilkenny countryside with breathtaking backdrops of rolling hills, Ballyhale’s Mountain View announces the eagerly anticipated return of their weekly farmers market on Sunday April 2nd. The Mountain View Market will run from 10am until 4pm every Sunday until the end of September. 

Begun as a ‘lockdown project’ by the O’Neill family, the third generation owners of Mountain View, Mountain View Market is Kilkenny’s most loved and the South East’s largest and fastest growing weekly farmers market and now supports hundreds of small business owners from across Ireland. In addition to their must-visit market, this sustainably focused countryside estate is a multi award winning wedding venue and is home to a luxurious glamping village and a celebrated restaurant which boasts critically acclaimed head chef Rory Nolan. 

Commenting on the success of her family-run business, Mountain View co-owner and co-founder Bee O’Grady says “Originally a family farm and having first opened nearly 30 years ago as a golf course, it is wonderful to see how our family-run business has transitioned and transformed into a successful exclusive wedding and events venue, an truly unique staycation offering in our luxury glamping village, The Greenhouse restaurant with its spectacular panoramic views and of course our ever-growing farmers market which return on Sunday April 2nd.”

Showcasing on average 75 market stalls every Sunday, the family-run Mountain View Market hosts an eclectic mix of food and craft stalls from local, regional and nationwide creators, makers, producers and businesses. From bao buns, bubble teas, sushi to award winning bakeries and vegan ‘junk’ food, Mountain View Market has a wide variety of tasty food to cater for the whole family’s Sunday brunch, lunch or weekend treat. In addition to their weekly food and craft markets, Mountain View also hosts specialty markets such as vintage clothing fairs, pop up art galleries and potters markets. 

Market traders travel from all over Ireland to take part in the popular market, including Belfast based specialist artisan cheesemongers ‘Tom & Ollie’, Laois’s sweet treat heaven ‘Iris & Milk Bakery’, Wexford’s ‘Hats Haute Couture’, Stylist Sinead Kelly and her lovingly curated vintage fashion and accessories of ‘Lovers Sunday Vintage’, Dublin’s ‘Pinchos’ and their delicious Venezuelan style pulled pork sandwiches and street food, and many more. 

Mountain View Market is a great place to support local Kilkenny independent business owners including the likes of ‘Wild Tails’ and their stylish dog accessories, sustainable soy wax candles ‘Wired Irish Crafts’, ‘Arán Kilkenny’ artisan bakery and hand-crafted confectionary and baked goods from ‘The Cookie Co-Op’. South East stall-holders include award winning artisan Irish sourdough breads and sweet treats from Tramore’s ‘Seagull Bakery’, ‘Love Indi’ and their curated collected of boho-chic fashion and accessories, vegan and plant based cuisine from New Ross’s ‘Peas & Love’, Waterford city based ‘SoCafro Kitchen’ and its fusion of West African and Caribbean-Trinidadian cuisine, ‘Tiramisu Da Costa Family’ and their delicious Italian desserts and ‘Diving Bell Art Gallery’ works of art created by deep sea diver and artist Patrick O’Mahony, amongst others. 

Originally a family farm, Mountain View offers an ultimate day out experience for family, friends or even furry four-legged friends as they are dog-friendly! They are home to the cutest Alpaca family, and their celebrated ‘The Greenhouse’ bar and eatery is open for Sunday brunch, lunch and of course those sunny summer drinks while soaking up the spectacular countryside view. 

In addition to being home to the must-visit market, Ballyhale’s Mountain View is a multi award winning wedding venue. Crowned as a winner in this year’s national SaveMyDay.ie Wedding Venue Awards, Mountain View took the top spot in three award categories which is the most of any wedding venue across Ireland.. They were awarded Ireland’s Best Alternative Wedding Venue, Ireland’s Best Festival Wedding Venue and an acclaimed Judge’s Choice award. 

Having been crowned Ireland’s Best Festival Wedding Venue, their on-site glamping village offers not only to-be-weds their own unique boutique festival experience but also families and couples an alternative staycation option.
