Over 50 food producers and business owners in the Boyne Valley have come together to create a series of exciting food events that run from April to October. Now in ts third year, the Boyne Valley Food Series celebrates the best produce and talent in the area from restaurants to farmers and everything in between.
This year’s theme is ‘A Place on a Plate’ where dishes are created solely from local Boyne Valley produce. Each participating venue and restaurant will create a dish that showcases the best of the region which was shortlisted last year for the RAI’s Foodie Towns competition.
Olivia Duff, chairperson of the Boyne Valley Food Series, says: “We are delighted to present the 3rd Boyne Valley Food Series which is all about offering unique, immersive, food experiences which highlight the best of the Boyne Valley Region and its people; some are off the beaten track, some offer ‘bucket list experiences’, others allow the visitor to put themselves in the shoes of the producer or the farmer for a day and get under the skin of real artisan food.”
The series kicks off on Friday 29th April with a Focus on Fish Festival at the Bective Restaurant in Kells, a four-night celebration of fish and shellfish. The following week renowned chef Rob Krawczyk is teaming up with his father, renowned charcutier Frank Krawczyk, to host a Charcuterie & Gin Demonstration at Tankardstown House on Thursday 5th May.
Sheridans Cheesemongers are hosting their Irish Food Festival on Sunday 29th May with Ireland’s top food producers and there will be a unique Midsummer’s Night celebration at the Boyne Brewhouse on 21st June.
A special Taste of Boyne Valley event will take place the weekend of 25th and 26th June at Kilsaran Home and Show Gardens in Dunboyne featuring celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin. If growing your own interests you, visit All Things Garlic on 2nd July at Drummond House Garlic Farm where you can tour the farm and sample dishes featuring nine different varieties of garlic grown there and a black garlic beer.
The beautiful village of Carlingford is once again hosting the renowned Carlingford Oyster Festival from 5th-8th August and you can become a producer yourself at Listoke Distillery & Gardens on 13th August where visitors will get to create their own gin recipe by choosing their own botanicals and take home their bottle after the day’s lesson.
