After their first successful year in Dublin, Derek King has launched Experience Irish Whiskey Killarney.
Over the last few months, Derek King has been handpicking the perfect venues to create immersive and fun whiskey experiences and tastings available in Killarney. With a great selection of pubs and bars in the city, these tours are a great way to see the genuine authenticity of the whiskey scene.
The focus for Experience Irish Whiskey Killarney will be local, with drams such as Dingle, Portmagee, The Liberator and Skellig making up the numbers. Guests will taste 6 premium whiskeys over the course of their tour, which is around 90 minutes long. There will also be some limited releases included in the tour in the form of single cask offerings that have been launched in Kerry over the last few years.
Guests will be guided by an expert host as with all Experience Irish Whiskey tours. Neil Saad will be the expert guide for Killarney – Neil is a whiskey writer, blogger, podcaster and tour guide, and will be bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table. Though he is a German native, his passion lies with local distilleries in Kerry, and Experience Irish Whiskey Killarney has worked with the Kerry producers to take the best drops to the tasting mat.
One of the highlights of the experience is Charlie Foleys on New Street, a family run, traditional pub in the town centre. Colm Foley continues the great tradition started by his great grandparents, Charlie and Ellen Foley, in 1896. 120 years later, Colm has taken on the legacy and continues it seamlessly through to today’s generations, proudly running Killarney’s oldest family run public house – a perfect backdrop for a memorable whiskey experience. Guests will be sitting in the cosy confines of one of their snugs for their tastings, with the back bar draped with whiskeys from all over the island.
Another stop on the exciting whiskey tour is Pigs Lane, the underground speakeasy-style bar. There is a very impressive back bar, making this an asset to Killarney’s already thriving whiskey scene. Whiskey events are a must in this beautiful venue, perfect for hosting large groups and enjoying local fare in O’Donohoes traditional bar shortly after.
Experience Irish Whiskey Killarney’s steady stream of premium whiskey is organised by John Fleming, the proprietor of both Carry-Out off license locations in Killarney. John is a whiskey enthusiast, collector and seller of the rarest bottles to be found. Limited releases and single casks will be a key feature of Experience Irish Whiskey Killarney’s tastings, with Joh reviving the art of independent bottling in his shops. These include exclusive bottlings from Two Stacks, WD O’Connell, Powers and Dunvilles.
