Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin launches new ‘Sardinian Citrus’ companion

We may not get to travel to exotic locations this summer, but an Irish gin distiller has brought a refreshing infusion of Mediterranean sunshine to its favourite brand.

PJ Rigney, of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin fame, has just launched a curious new companion to the world’s top-selling Irish gin brand – Sardinian Citrus.

Distilled with ‘Citrus monstruosa’, one of the world’s rarest citrus fruits only found on the sun-scorched island of Sardinia, Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin with Sardinian Citrus is now available in off-licences across Ireland.

It was on one of his travels through the azure waters of the Mediterranean sea that PJ arrived in the rustic country village of Siniscola, where the local people introduced him to ‘Sa pompia’ or ‘Citrus monstruosa’.

PJ brought this unusual relative of the orange and grapefruit back to The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo where he would meld it with the original exotic oriental botanicals of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin to create this refreshing new edition.

There is already huge international demand for Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin with Sardinian Citrus from international markets, which is expected  to strike a universal chord this summer as friends and family reunite to celebrate brighter days ahead.

Sardinia was the first destination for delivery, then Ireland of course and Sardinian Citrus has taken pride of place on drink and cocktail menus across the island’s bars, restaurants and Enoteche as they prepare to reopen for summer.

It has also landed in the US, where Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is one of the fastest growing super-premium gin brands, and it has arrived in France and Germany and will be on sale in over 30 countries across the world by the end of 2021.

The striking green bottle follows the style of the much-loved Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin blue bottle that has captured the imagination of gin lovers across the world.  Every precious drop is slow distilled by hand at The Shed Distillery, Drumshanbo.  It is priced between €40.00 and €49.00

As the country begins to reopen, PJ and his team of over 50 employees in Leitrim are gearing up for a busy summer with indications that the extraordinary new €3million Shed Distillery Experience at the home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin in Leitrim will open.

The experience brings visitors on a Curious Journey into the Inner Sanctum of the first whiskey distillery in Connacht in 101 years and on a voyage to the Far East to discover gunpowder tea, the inspiration behind Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. It also includes the bright and spacious Jackalope Café and a fabulous gift shop with exclusive distillery bottlings.
