Disneyland for Wine Lovers: Theme Park La Cité du Vin just Opened in Bordeaux
Magic Kingdom is now the second most magical place on Earth. Since yesterday 31st of May, La Cité du Vin (French for The City of Wine) opened its doors in Bordeaux during an act that saw French President François Hollande welcoming visitors to the new theme park and museum.
The ten-storey €81 million dollar attraction took seven years in the making and it’s designed to evoke the look of swirling wine in a glass. It features 20 wine related sections focused on history, styles and other topics of interest, a 250 auditorium for classes and two on-site restaurants, one of those with an extensive wine offer of over 800 options.
Tickets to the permanent tour are reasonably priced at €20 and they include the entry to a 3,000 square metres exhibition space and a “travel companion”, an innovative tool in 8 languages that allows visitors to explore the different sections at their own pace, and access to La Cité du Vin’s Belvedere where 360° views of Bordeaux await to be enjoyed while tasting a glass of world wine.
The place is expecting 450,000 visitors per year and according to Sylvie Cazes, Chairwoman of the Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilizations, the coverage on the topic is extensive. Oh, and there’s a simulator boat ride reimagining the maritime journey of a merchant’s galley across the globe.
