#Ardbeg #Islay #ArdbegDay2021

Held annually on the final Saturday of Islay’s Festival of Music and Malt (Fèis Ìle), Ardbeg Day is a global celebration of all things Ardbeg. Taking place this year on June 5th, scotch fans in Ireland are invited to join Ardbeg’s Irish ambassador, Paul Tuohy, and L Mulligan Whiskey Shop’s Spirits Curator, Michael Foggarty, for an exclusive virtual tasting experience. Tickets costing €25 (including a tasting pack) are available from

With travel still not possible, the folks at L Mulligan Whiskey Shop bring a little of the Hebridean island of Islay, on Scotland’s west coast, to Ireland for a virtual tasting of five fantastic Ardbeg drams. Smoky malt whisky lovers will have the chance to taste a dram of Ardbeg Ten Years Old, Ardbeg An Oa, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Ardbeg Corryvreckan and Ardbeg Blaaack. with Paul and Michael taking tasters through the creation of each and their tasting notes.

Irish Ardbeg aficionados will be particularly excited about the chance to taste Ardbeg Blaaack, the feisty Limited Edition bottled created in 2020 in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the over 100,000 strong Ardbeg Committee and not currently on sale here. To mark such a momentous occasion, the Distillery rounded up Pinot Noir casks from the country that lies the furthest distance from Islay – New Zealand. The resulting liquid knits together velvety summer fruit pudding and bitter cherry, with a deeper edge of soot and Ardbeg’s hallmark smoke.

Ardbeg Ten Years Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex single malt of them all; Ardbeg An Oa is singularly rounded, with smoky power, mellowed by a delectable, smooth sweetness; while Ardbeg Uigeadail, pronounced ‘Oog-a-dal’, is a special vatting that marries Ardbeg’s traditional deep, smoky notes with luscious, raisiny tones of old ex-Sherry casks; while with Ardbeg Corryvreckan, swirling aromas and torrents of deep, peaty, peppery taste lurk beneath the surface of this beautifully balanced dram.

For those who can’t attend the tasting with Paul and Michael, then be sure to check out some other virtual events the Distillery has planned for Ardbeg Day. Cameron George’s Smoketails sees our US ambassador show fans how to create some incredible smoky cocktails, using our core range, and inspired by our fantasy theme. Or if you’ve ever wanted to visit the Distillery, then join Ardbeg Distillery Manager Colin Gordon for a virtual tour of the new Stillhouse, followed by a live tasting-by- request of any expressions that viewers ask for. The Ardbeg Day Virtual Tasting Experience takes place on Saturday, June 5th at 7.30pm. Tickets costing €25, including a 5 x 17.5ml tasting pack, are available from today
