Delectable and Magical – Treat Your Wicked Self with Afternoon Tea at the Mandarin Oriental

We all know one can eat like a queen, but have you ever wanted to eat like a witch, but without the potions? In the plush decor of The Rosebery Lounge at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, you can now avail of an afternoon of freshly baked scones and the finest teas as the luxurious hotel has launched their Wicked-themed Afternoon Tea offer.

This is a fantastic and very innovative foodie event happening in London, that celebrates the West End’s 11th year of the ever-popular musical. Spanning over a decade now, the show’s story has worked its magic on the culinary scene, therefore expect both food lovers and theatre-goers to join in on this one of a kind occasion.

As popular as the musical it’s inspired by, Afternoon Tea has never been so magical. Within the selection of delights, there are six different cakes on offer, each designed to honour a character from the Witches of Oz.

Green is of course a dominant colour within the cakes, including the pistachio cupcakes, matcha and hazelnut fingers, but there’s also the glitzy metallic high heel atop, indicating both Elphaba and Galinda’s influences.

Created by executive pastry chef Paul Thieblemont, each feature of the Afternoon Tea is beautifully executed, and all look as delicious as the next. Alongside their impressively long list of the teas from around the world, this Knightsbridge offering also includes a milk chocolate and caramel mousse witch’s hat, an engraved witch white chocolate lollipop, and a broomstick design biscuit sandwich.

At the Rosebery Lounge, you’ll be seated within opulence, that’s well reflected in the hotel’s choice of delph – white tea sets adorned with gold accents. Perfect for choosing from one of their ‘40 of the finest and rarest teas’, though if a hot chocolate or cappuccino more tickles your fancy, these are also ideal accompaniments to this outstanding Afternoon Tea.

Of course, you won’t miss out on the classic treats of scones and finger sandwiches. The former are served complete with clotted cream, a rose petal jam and lemon curd too, while the latter are filled with slow roasted chicken and buttered corn, smoked salmon tartare, as well as spring pea panna cotta and mint – Elphaba would surely approve.

The Wicked-themed Afternoon Tea costs £53 per adult, and £28 for children. To book your table, visit https://www.mandarinoriental.com/london, or call (+44) 0207 201 3828.
