Have you jumped in the winter bandwagon yet? It’s easy if you like big, rich, tantastic reds. But if the idea of having the wine equivalent of a quarterback tackling your taste buds sounds more like a “no thanks” than a “yes please” for you, perhaps you’d rather a lighter wine with an edge.
De Martino Gallardía Cinsault DO Itata is a very unique red. It comes from Chile’s Itata Valley, a hidden gem of volcanic soils and innovative winemaking located 500 km south of Santiago. The family behind the winery has a history of pioneering and in this organic red, you’ll find a different taste of Chile.
Aromas of ripe red fruit, cranberries and juicy cherries dominate, with a floral touch. On the palate, a mineral character complements it. The wine’s tannins are gentle and silky and it has a moderate acidity. If you like Beaujolais, this is definitively one to explore.
De Martino Gallardía Cinsault DO Itata is available at O’Briens Wine at €17.95 (on offer from €19.95).
