The Connemara Mussel Festival Returns this May Bank Holiday Weekend

This May Bank Holiday will see the Connemara Mussel Festival take over the village of Tullycross on the Renvyle Peninsula. The festival is returning for its 13th year and will be filled with talks, demonstrations, tastings and more. It is a celebration of the people, culture, food and heritage of North-West Connemara. The festival committee have organised a vibrant and jam packed festival for all the family.

The Connemara Mussel Festival is suitable for all ages, with magicians such as the renowned ‘Rua’, storytelling and a pet farm. Along with cookery classes and children’s plays from The Curlew Theatre there will be Sean Nos dancing and the famous Cois Claddaigh choir to mention a few.

Spread the over the 4th, 5th and 6th of May, visitors can enjoy an artisan market taking place on the Saturday and Sunday, full of local crafts and food. A 5km fun run will go ahead, open to everyone, as well as the popular dawn walk on Sunday morning.

The festival will play host to foodie talks from locals such as from Graham Roberts, the Connemara Smokehouse Proprietor, a poitín tasting with Micil Poitín along with Amy Coyne, sharing her story of her trip to Mount Everest basecamp. Visiting chefs chatting and demonstrating include Cliodhna Prendergast, Declan McManus, Jonathan Keane, Keith Carden and Tim O Sullivan.

Galway and the West of Ireland is 2018’s European Region of Gastronomy. The Connemara Mussel Festival is part of the programme of events which focuses on the regions rich marine life and beautiful landscape.

Chairperson Gerard Coyne, of Paddy Coyne’s pub, is delighted and honored to be leading another exciting festival. He invites everyone to visit the festival and the many pubs in the village that will play host to music, food and entertainment all weekend.

To top off this fishy and fun festival there will be a Gala Dinner held in the Moal Reidh Hotel on Sunday evening.
