Coastal Date Nights Treats with Potager at Home

The coastal village of Skerries in North County Dublin has really made a name for itself as a foodie destination. And establishing itself, quite quickly as one of the best in the village, and indeed in all of Fingal, is Potager.  Opened in 2019, in the building that housed the legendary Red Bank restaurant, Potager Restaurant is the creation of Sarah Ryan and her partner, former Chapter One Head Chef Cathal Leonard

Like many quality restaurants during the lockdown, Potager has innovated to survive by creating the “Potager at Home” dinner box allowing you to experience a fine dining restaurant from the comfort of your own dining table. We were thrilled, that even during lockdown, we could enjoy this quality local restaurant that’s been on our list for a while.

“Potager at Home” provided us with the perfect solace and much-welcomed break from the mundane lockdown week of working from home and homeschooling. The tasting dinner box is available to pre-order before 1 pm on Thursday and you then collect on Friday or Saturday anytime between 5:30 pm and 9:00 pm.

The presentation of the dinner at home box is impeccable. The meal required zero preparation time, minimal cooking and assembly.  Each element of the meal is packaged in oven-ready dishes, which made for minimal washing up too! The menu changes each week with an emphasis on fresh seasonal and local ingredients.  We ordered the at home dinner box for two and it is astonishing good value for money at €35.00.  The box contained very generous portions of decadent pork cheek Blanchett cooked in a voluptuous creamy velouté sauce with king oyster mushrooms and smoked bacon. The pork was incredibly tender and this dish was simply French cuisine at its best.  The dish was paired with sides of root vegetable with a herb crumb, roasted organic cabbage and creamy parsley mashed potato.

To heat, each item simply went into the oven at 160 degrees for 10 minutes. Sometimes, you may be concerned when reheating that the food may be overcooked, but we were truly impressed at how accurate the heating times were as every part of the meal was perfectly cooked.  The attention to detail of the Potager team was apparent throughout the meal.

Over the last 11 months, we have tried many local restaurant takeaways, but this was genuinely the first time we felt that we were dining out. This is the perfect offering if you’re celebrating an occasion, want a nice date night or a treat to simply celebrate getting through the week!

When you consider the superb quality of the food we had and the generosity of the portions you cannot argue that the €35.00 price is a phenomenal value for dinner for two people. Potager also offers at an additional cost wines to perfectly match their potage at home menu.

In addition to the at home dinner box, they also order an exquisite lunch box, which of course can be used for lunch at home, a sumptuous picnic (as the weather improves) or for evening nipples with a glass of wine. There is also a delicious flatbread available.

The fine-dining standard of this neighbourhood restaurant and the excellent value for money pricing of the at home boxes is sure to encourage locals to make Potager at home a regular treat.

Overall, Potager at home was the perfect date night!
