Donegal Food Tours are back and are starting with a good one! They will kick start their calendar of events with a very special food and wine trail to celebrate Spanish Food & Wine Week 2021 on Saturday 9th, October. Expect lots of delicious Donegal produce with a tantalising Spanish flair and amazing Spanish wine pairings in a selection of the best restaurants and bars in South Donegal.

Spanish Food & Wine Week is run once a year by the Spanish Embassy to promote Spanish food and wine in Ireland with businesses in Donegal being featured on the schedule of events for the first time. Spanish Food and Wine Week will run from October 4th–10th and will include a number of events, discounts and promotions nationwide.

This trail will start in Donegal Town at 1.30pm sharp with pick up in Ballybofey on request (contact us directly to avail of this option). On the trail, you will visit the famous Biddys O’Barnes in the breathtaking setting of Barnesmore Gap, the popular seafood restaurant, Kitty Kelly’s, Blas at The Gateway Lodge and McCafferty’s Traditional Irish Bar with unmissable tasters from Peter Campbell Catering along the way.

Hake Fillet Poached in Saffron Broth served with Pisto and Pan Con Ajo, Beef Croquetas de Carrilleras, Spiced Tempura Irish Prawn with Chorizo Jam and Saffron Aioli, Gambas and Rape al Ajillo, Croquetas de Jamón with Chili & Tomato Salsa and Crema Catalana are just some of the delicious bites being served on the trail.

Enjoy expert wine pairing from Sue Glackin of Donegal Food Tours who will talk you through an array of Spanish wines including Verdejo, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Spanish Pet Nat and a few others. And for a little history lesson, James and Moira of Sliabh Liag Distillers will be doing a tasting of their An Dúlamán Santa Ana Armada Strength Gin whose inspiration draws from La Duquesa Santa Ana, a formidable Andalusian ship which was lost off Loughros Mor, Ardara, Donegal in Philip II’s ill-fated Spanish Armada’s attempt to invade England in 1588.

To celebrate Spanish Wine Week Biddys O’Barnes, Kitty Kelly’s Restaurant and McCafferty’s Donegal Town will all be running 20% off select Spanish wines for the duration of Spanish Food & Wine Week.
