Bonac 24 Gin: A Premium Irish Craft with a Difference

The recently launched premium Irish gin Bonac 24 is the  first product from a boutique distillery in Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow. The expertly balanced blend was the result of combining natural botanicals that offer notes of citrus, mint and star anise.

Bonac 24 was created by 25 year old entrepreneur, Gavin Clifford, and his father Michael. After Gavin’s return from New York, they ventured into the craft gin world and after careful research, travelling and experimentation, they commissioned their bespoke copper still from one of the oldest still manufacturers in the world.

“Growing up, I had seen my father establish his own successful business and I always felt that I would like to do the same,” said Gavin. “I noticed the rapid growth in craft beer, cocktails and premium spirits, and I knew that premium gin was the area I wanted to focus on. While living in New York I made it my business to learn everything I could about the drinks industry before returning home to open our own distillery in rural County Wicklow.”

The Inspiration Behind Bonac 24

The label shows a bird in flight, featuring its 12 botanicals and the name Bonac 24 is inspired by the summers that Gavin spent working in The Hamptons, US. Locals refer to the area as Bonac, named after the Accabonac harbour and creek.

Bonac 24‘s perfect serve combines premium tonic water with a garnish of fresh mint and lime, while for the summer months, Bonac 24 has created a fruity garnish of raspberry and lime.

The 700ml bottle of Bonac 24 is available for €45 from O’Brien’s (nationwide), Mitchell’s (IFSC and Glasthule), Blackrock Cellar (Blackrock), Whelehan’s Wines (Loughlinstown), Higgins Off Licence (Clonskeagh), L Mulligan Whiskey Shop (Powerscourt Centre) or Celtic Whiskey Shop (Dawson Street). Bonac 24 is also available in some of Ireland’s best bars and restaurants.
