What Kind of Sorcery is This? Behold a Blue Gin that Turns Pink when you Add Tonic Water

If there is a spirit that could pass as a magic potion it’s gin. With its exotic roots, leaves and many other obscure botanicals, the tipple wouldn’t be out of place in a classroom at Hogwarts and just as if that wasn’t enough, alchemists behind Portuguese Sharish Gin have come up with a blue gin that turns pink when you add tonic water to it.

Appropriately named Sharish Blue Magic Gin, it contains a natural flower extract from the blue pea plant (Clitoria ternatea), and it appears bright admiral blue in the bottle. Other botanicals include juniper, coriander, angelica root, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, strawberry, raspberry and lemons and oranges from Antelejo, the region in which it’s produced.

The gin remains blue when ice touches it, but add tonic water and you’ll see why it’s called “Magic”: it quickly evolves to a pale rosy shade in a shift that might be as gimmicky as they come, but that doesn’t stop it from being mesmerising.

The gin is described as spicy at first, with aromas of red berries, a background of coriander and a soft juniper finish.
