Blackwater Distillery’s New Premises Receive Planning Permission

Blackwater Distillery’s plans to build a micro-distillery with visitor facilities in Ballyduff, Co Waterford has been approved.

Their clever idea to renovate a hardware store built in 1952 into a state of the art micro-distillery is underway and renovations are to start in July.

The creators of Blackwater No 5 Gin plan to open their new 6,000 square foot distillery in early 2018. The distillery will be equipt with a bespoke labelling line, three stills, a brew house, an automatic bottling line, cafe and a tasting room. There won’t be any maturation on site and they will have a hot tub on the roof.

They are winners of many awards such as Winners the Best Irish Gin at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2016, Best Emerging Business by Waterford Chamber 2017 and also received runner up at The Irish Times AIB Start-up Academy 2016.

Blackwater Distillery has many products including Wexford strawberry gin, Boyle’s gin and Hedgerow gin.

The Blackwater Distillery sits on the banks of the Blackwater river and it’s Ireland’s first craft gin distillery. The river’s Irish name is ‘An Abhainn Mhor’ which means ‘The Big River”, sometimes referred to as the ‘Munster Blackwater’. As the mention on their website, “it rises on the Cork, Kerry border and flows due east into Waterford where it makes an abrupt right turn at Cappoquin. From there it flows past the distillery and into the sea at Youghal.”
