Ireland has been voted “Best International Destination” by thousands of readers at the Group Leisure & Travel Awards in the United Kingdom.
This is the second year in the row that Ireland has come out on top, beating out popular destinations like Malta, Prague, Barcelona and India.
The ceremony took place in Birmingham, with representatives of Tourism Ireland accepting the award. Speaking about the win, CEO of Tourism Ireland, Niall Gibbons, said: “We are delighted that Ireland has been singled out for this accolade once again by the readers of Group Leisure & Travel magazine and by influential group travel organisers around Britain.”
He added: “Travellers nowadays have tremendous choice, which makes it more important than ever for us to ensure the island of Ireland stands out from other destinations, so this award is good news indeed.”
In other great news for Ireland, Irish Ferries picked up the award for “Best Ferry”.
The annual Group Leisure & Travel Awards recognise the best destinations, attractions, accommodation, experiences and providers for the group travel industry.
The awards are voted for by active travel organisers from sports and social clubs, retired associations, special interest societies and other groups.
