Aldi Crowns National Junior Baking Champion at the National Ploughing Championships
The theme of the second National Junior Baking Competition, sponsored by Aldi, in association with Foróige and the National Ploughing Association was ‘Muffins of the Moment’. The winner is reigning champion Éabha Campbell (16) of Truagh, Co Monaghan, who wins a group trip for her Foróige club to Delphi Adventure Centre, and a €1,000 bursary fund for herself. Her muffins will also be stocked in all 126 Aldi stores nationwide.
Her winning recipe was a spiced fruit muffins with a 1916 Centenary theme which the judges described as outstanding. The competition offers young people an opportunity to showcase their baking skills and win great prizes. County and regional finals were held nationally through Foróige, and the final was held in the Aldi Marquee at the National Ploughing Championships.
Aldi Ireland has a three year partnership with leading youth organisation Foróige, which works with over 54,000 young people (aged 10-18 years old) and 5,500 volunteers each year through a network of more than 615 youth clubs and cafes, 147 targeted projects the Big Brother, Big Sister youth mentoring programme and national programmes such as Citizenship, Entrepreneurship and Leadership.

Éabha, from Truagh Foróige Club in Co. Monaghan, was crowned the National Junior Baker in the Aldi Marquee at the National Ploughing Championships on September 22nd 2016, and the opportunity to have her muffins stocked in store in Aldi nationwide was part of her prize.
Éabha baked spiced fruit centenary Muffin of the Moment which the judges described as outstanding. The muffins are based on a traditional gur cake recipe which was sold on the streets of Dublin in 1916.
