A Fabulous Five Star Afternoon Tea Experience at home with ‘Love Tea’ From The Merrion Hotel – Review

The very thought of afternoon tea instantly evokes a sense of occasion. An afternoon of indulgent treats, endless cups of tea and that obligatory glass of bubbles. In ordinary times, afternoon tea was a galant treat reserved for much needed catch up’s with old friends, to mark milestones such as Birthday’s, Anniversaries, Baby Showers or even as part of a wickedly wonderful weekend away with your significant other.

The Five Star Merrion Hotel has created the most fabulous spread for you to enjoy in your own home, or gift to your nearest and dearest so that these memorable occasions can still be acknowledged in style.

We were treated to the full package, this includes afternoon tea, a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers and a bottle of Champagne. From the moment the doorbell rang, the sheer decadence of this glorious delivery had already made this an occasion all of its own.

Each course packed with precision in luxurious branded boxes. A selection of black and flavoured black tea along with flavoured green tea were provided in the box. As avid tea drinkers, our first port of call was to brew a couple of cups of each to enjoy alongside the tempting array of treats on offer.

In line with appropriate afternoon tea eating etiquette, we began our journey through this burgeoning array of dainty delights with the savoury selection. Refined, crustless triangle cut sandwiches. Each bite of fresh brown bread filled with silky smooth, smoked salmon. Generous slices of honeyroast Ham on white bread, Chunks of moreish Cornfed Chicken between slices of granary, finishing with fresh and flavourful Organic Cucumber and Egg Mayonnaise.

After some refreshing cups of tea and a little break we moved on to the Tea Breads and Scones. The selection was really quite something! Slices of zesty Lemon Drizzle Cake, rich Portercake, Battenburg filling us with nostalgia and a deliciously light Banana Bread. Plain and Fruit Scones with the mandatory and much loved accompaniments of jam and cream.

The Merrion Hotel’s illustrious Pastry Chef, Paul Kelly consistently displays an undeniable talent and passion for his work. We have been fortunate to enjoy Paul’s creations on previous occasions. Every effort has been made by Paul and his team to ensure that this “at home” offering is every bit as gorgeous and glamorous as the dine in option that many visitors of the hotel will be familiar with.

The Merrion Rose is a Macaron on another level, artfully decorated and filled with Lychee Rose and Raspberry Mousse. A chocolate sphere dusted in glimmering gold is Paul’s own take on Ferrero Rocher. Thick milk chocolate shell spiked with nuts and a banana flavoured salted caramel centre – blissful! A classic fruit tart completed this luscious lineup.

The Merrion “Love Tea” is a spectacular treat. The ultimate pick me up which is sure to give every recipient a memorable Merrion Moment in the comfort of one’s own home. This special offering is currently available to purchase on TheTaste.ie with prices starting at €70.
