A Beautiful Burgundy to Treat yourself or Surprise a Wine Lover this Week

When in doubt, Burgundy. Whether it’s a treat for yourself or a present to make a wine lover smile, you can’t go wrong with a bottle from one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions. Pouilly-Fuissé is an appellation located in the Macconais subregion, from the southern side of the Burgundy, where warmer temperatures help Chardonnay grapes achieve ripeness, intensity and a very appealing balance between exuberance and restrain.

Chateau Fuisse Pouilly Fuiss Tete de Cru featureChâteau Fuisse Pouilly Fuissé Tete de Cru 2015 is a benchmark example of its provenance. Grapes (Chardonnay, as always is the case in white Burgundy) are carefully sourced from 40 different parcels within the estate’s 100 acres holding.

It’s pronounced and complex, with a combination of ripe fruit aromas and the delightful buttery feel we know and love in our Chardo. A sensible use of oak adds a moderate toasty character that, along with lemon curd and green apple peel make for layers of enjoyment.

Full bodied and with a moderate acidity, it’s one that will stay in your palate and in your memory for long after your sip is gone.

It will make a brilliant present for a host or Secret Santa, not just because of its highly recognisable pedigree, but because the way it delivers. If you’re getting it for yourself, enjoy it solo or pair it with a creamy pasta dish, a rich, fatty fish or poultry.

Château Fuisse Pouilly Fuissé Tete de Cru 2015 is available at O’Brien Wines at €26.95 (on offer from €31.95).
