3 AA Rosette Award for Catalina Restaurant at Lough Erne Resort

The Catalina Restaurant at 5-star Lough Erne Resort in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, has just been awarded a coveted 3 AA Rosette Award at the annual AA Hospitality Awards held last night, 5th October 2015, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Attended by world-renowned chefs, prominent hoteliers and restaurateurs, hospitality gurus and key media, and hosted by award-winning newscaster and BBC presenter Fiona Bruce, the AA Hospitality Awards is a highlight in the industry calendar that recognises and rewards the excellent services provided by the very best hotels, restaurants and pubs.

Guests enjoyed a champagne reception followed by a sensational meal created by Cornwall-based chef Nathan Outlaw, himself a 4 AA Rosette winner and the AA’s current Chef’s Chef, an award voted for by his fellow AA Rosette chefs.

Among the 23 accolades awarded from 11 categories, the AA Hospitality Award for Multi Rosette Establishments, sponsored by Villeroy & Boch, gave 3 AA Rosettes to the Catalina Restaurant at Lough Erne Resort. 3 AA Rosettes are only given to outstanding restaurants that achieve standards that demand recognition well beyond their local area, and only around 10% of the restaurants or hotels within the AA Restaurant Guide have 3 Rosettes and above.

In the AA’s own description of 3 AA Rosette winners it states:

“The cooking is underpinned by the selection and sympathetic treatment of the highest quality ingredients. Timing, seasoning and the judgment of flavour combinations will consistently be excellent. These virtues tend to be supported by other elements, such as intuitive service and a well-chosen wine list.”

A passionate ambassador for local produce, Lough Erne Resort Executive Chef Noel McMeel provides some food for thought on the changing art of cooking. His belief is that simplicity is often the key to creating the best cuisine, and showcases the importance of using indigenous ingredients from local producers.

“The Catalina Restaurant has become a byword for excellence,” says General Manager of Lough Erne Resort, Andrew Phelan, “with our wonderful chef Noel McMeel and his talented team creating sophisticated and elegant food, and with the impeccable support of their front of house team. Here at Lough Erne Resort we are delighted that their hard work and commitment has been recognised by the AA and their inspectors, and we are proud to prioritise and promote our fine local and artisan food producers on the Catalina menus.”

“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the team at Lough Erne Resort whose endless work and commitment has contributed to this award. We are all very proud and honoured to become a 3 AA Rosette hotel,” he added.

The Catalina Restaurant at Lough Erne Resort, named after the magnificent flying boats that were based nearby on Lower Lough Erne during the Second World War, many of which can be seen in the photographs of the period which decorate the walls of this elegant room, is open daily for dinner from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and for lunch on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.
