ABOUT 1520
Galway’s newest bar has just opened on Quay Street in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Formerly the Spanish Arch Bar, the 1520 has opened its doors after extensive renovations.
1520 is trying to bring something slightly different to the Galway pub scene, focusing on a theatrical style combined with old world quietness.
1520 gets its name from the old Spanish Arch Wall, which began construction around that time. The second reason is because of a very special apartment block, 1520 on Sedgwick Avenue, The Bronx, New York City, where according to the New York Times “Hip Hop” was born.
1520 will be the home to live music seven nights a week. It is home to daily trad sessions in the early evenings, at the weekend the mood changes and the top Dj’s around take over.
Old school hip hop, vinal classics and the best and coolest commercial hits will be there to help patrons have the best night possible.
With a very mixed line up of dj’s customers are guaranteed to enjoy a different, yet fantastic experience each visit.
PHOTOS OF 1520
1520 serves a very diverse range of drinks including, gins, rum and amazing cocktails. The bar is home to plenty of high quality premium products and top class service.
The food menu is traditional Irish bar food which will delights locals and tourists alike. Being so close to the Claddagh and Galway Bay, seafood naturally features heavily.
1520 will have a resident artist, the legendry Barry “Jazz” Finnegan, who is a live realistic painter. He will be in house once a month to create his masterpieces.
These portraits will then feature on 1520’s wall until the following month when he returns to update his work.
