SWEET TREATS

Bean and Goose Craft Chocolate

bean-and-goose

When it comes to Irish craft chocolate, we are understandably obsessed with Bean & Goose which hails from the Sunny South East. Their single origin bars and array of tempting and well-thought out flavour combos like Dark Chocolate with Roasted Spiced Hazelnut and Wexford Honey or Milk Chocolate with Smoked Irish Sea Salt & Cocoa Nibs make them irresistible at any time of the year.

Beautiful packaging ensures they are perfectly gift-worthy, whether it is a couple of bars or a seriously tempting box Irish Whiskey Truffles, made with Greenore Whiskey, Writers Tears, Kilbeggan Whiskey and Teeling Whiskey.

Price: €6 per bar or €16.50 for a box of 8 Irish Whiskey Truffles

Hazel Mountain Chocolate

Hazel Mountain Hot Chocolate from the wilds of The Burren is a game-changer for those of us who love nothing more than curling up by the fire with a festive hot choccie – it even got a mention from Nigella on the Late Late! If it’s good enough for the domestic goddess it will be good enough for your favourite chocoholic. Pair with some handmade Irish marshmallows (like Delish Melish ) and you have a thoughtful and tremendously delicious treat.

Price: €12 per box

The Proper Chocolate Company Christmas Specials

Dublin based chocolatiers Proper Chocolate Company have three special Christmas varieties this year, much to our delight. In addition to a Venezuelan Bar with Teeling Whiskey, there is also a Blond Salted Caramel Chocolate and a Nicaraguan Chocolate with Espresso made with an heirloom cocoa bean and paired with a Nicaraguan Microlot Coffee Bean. As with all of their handmade chocolate, they start with the cocoa bean and produce the chocolate out of a “chocolate workshop” in Glasnevin – like Dublin’s answer to Willy Wonka’s factory.

Price: Bars €7 each or as a trio in a decorative Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Chest for €25

Rhoda Cocoa Chocolate

Hailing from Bray, Rhoda Cocoa handcrafted artisan chocolate is the kind of gift you won’t want to part with – best buy two of these stunning bars as begrudging your giftee is never a good look. Spiked with festive red and green and beautifully balanced, Spices, Morello Cherry and Pistachio is the perfect Christmas treat.

Price: €5.95 per 100g bar

Popsy Daisy Irish Whiskey Salted Caramel Popcorn

Picking up a Blas na hEireann Gold Award in 2017, there is no better treat to pair with watching Christmas movies than Popsy Daisy popcorn. Sticky, gooey and sweet with a coating of Teeling Whiskey caramel and Oriel sea salt, popping this is your loved ones’ stocking is definitely a safe bet.

Price: €3.95 for 100g pack

Mella’s Irish Butter Fudge

Meltingly delicious, smooth fudge isn’t as simple to whip up at home as many will tell you (unless you are a dab hand with a sugar thermometer) so save yourself the scrubbing of pans and disappointment and give the gift of Mella’s Irish Butter Fudge. Hand made in West Cork to a traditional recipe, each flavour is utterly indulgent but Christmas Spice with Orange or Rum and Raisin are our top festive fudgey picks.

Miena’s Handmade Nougat

Nougat is a traditional Christmas treat across Italy (where it is known as Torrones) and when dotted with toasty nuts and dried fruit it is difficult to top for a yuletide sweet treat. Multi award winning Miena’s Handmade Nougat is a no-brainer, with tempting flavour combos like Chocolate, Hazelnut and Cranberry or Almond and Pistachio to name a few. Try out every variety with their beautiful Christmas Selection Tin.
